TEAM WINS STATE
The Coffee County 4-H Shotgun team traveled to Savannah for the weekend of May 28-29, to compete in the Georgia 4-H Trap and Skeet Match. The match was held at the Forest City Gun Club. Coffee 4-H had two Senior 4-H Teams (grade 9-12) and two Junior 4-H Teams (7th & 8th graders) to compete. Team members included Timmy Rewis, Huntington Smith, and Barron Thomas on one team and Jordan Davis, Brice Grantham, Lance Ricketson, and Blakely Tanner on the other. Teams can be composed of three to four members. The Junior 4-H Teams included Clif Ellis, Bailey Russ, and Slade Smith on one team and Jake Fletcher, Lauren Tanner, and Elijah Turk on the other. Coaches for the team include Richard Grantham, David Rewis, and Clay Thomas.
The Senior 4-H Team composed of Davis, Grantham, Ricketson, and Tanner scored a team score of 559 out of 600 to ensure their spot as the first place team. The Senior 4-H Team of Rewis, Smith, and Thomas captured the 22nd place spot out of 49 teams. The Junior teams place 11th and 17th out of 18 Junior teams competing.
The 4-H members not only earn awards as a team, but individual awards are also presented to the high shooters. Brice Grantham received three awards for his individual scores. He scored a 96 out of 100 in Trap for 2nd place, a 99 in Skeet and won the tie breaker for first place, and his total score of 195 put him in 1st place overall for the state contest. Brice was the only 4-H member from Coffee County to receive individual awards.
The Senior 4-H Team of Davis, Grantham, Ricketson, and Tanner are getting ready for the National 4-H Shotgun competition to be held in Grand Island, Nebraska in late June. The team is soliciting donations to help with their travel expenses. Contributions can be made payable to Coffee County Extension/4-H and mailed to Coffee County 4-H Club, Attn: Shotgun Team, 709 E. Ward Street, Douglas, GA 31533. Your generous support will be greatly appreciated and as 4‑H is a 501(c)3 organization, your donation will be tax deductible.
CLOVERLEAF 4-H CAMP ORIENTATION MEETING
This year’s Cloverleaf 4-H Camp for 4th-6th graders will be held at the Fortson 4-H Center near Hampton, Georgia, the week of July 18th-22nd. We have a great group of students attending camp and are looking forward to going to White Water Park, Stone Mountain for the Laser Show, and much more while at camp with these students.
We also have planned a parent/child orientation meeting on Tuesday, June 21, at 6 PM, in the conference room of the Coffee County Agricultural Center (4-H office).
All camp participants and at least one of their parents are asked to attend this meeting to turn in completed medical and code of conduct forms as well as receive information about what to pack for camp. The 4-H staff is looking forward to our week of camp with these students and hope the kids are just as excited.
GOAT SHOW INFO
It’s time to get signed up for this year’s County and State 4-H and FFA Goat Shows. We will be having a sign up/information meeting at Coffee High School in the Animal Science Building on Thursday, June 23rd, at 6:30 PM. Goats will be tagged after the meeting for students who already have their goats.
An additional tagging date will be announced at this meeting.
