First United Methodist Church Welcomes Rev. Doug And Lynn Walker
Members and friends of the First UMC in Douglas are excited and pleased to welcome their new pastor, Rev. Doug Walker and his wife Lynn to Douglas. Doug grew up in Camilla, Ga., graduating from Westwood Academy in 1981 and Georgia Southern University in 1986 with a degree in history. Doug graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1990 with a Master of Divinity degree. He has served several communities in South Georgia including Jesup, Reidsville, Midway, and Waycross.Doug and Lynn both grew up in the United Methodist Church, and were active in their respective UMYF Youth Groups. They were both also active in the Wesley Foundation on their college campuses. Lynn comes to Douglas with a background in middle school education. She has also served for the past thirty-five years as organist at churches across South Georgia. Doug and Lynn have a family of four children and four grandchildren. The Walkers say that they are excited that the Lord has led them serve at First UMC in Douglas, and they “look forward to becoming active in this exciting church and community” They moved into our parsonage on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, and Rev. Walker will preach his first sermon at first UMC on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Worship services are at 8:30 a.m. in Robertson Hall, and at 11:00 a.m. in our sanctuary. The church is located in the 300 block of North Peterson Ave. and North Madison Avenue. With open hearts, open minds and open doors, we cordially invite all to attend.
