Trojans Baseball Team Blows Two Late Leads In Losses To Colquitt & Bacon
The Coffee High School Trojan baseball team suffered two extremely tough losses in their most recent outings, as they fell to Colquitt by a final of 9-8 on Friday and lost to Bacon by a score of 8-6 on Saturday. Coffee blew a two-run lead against Colquitt and followed that with a three-run blown lead versus Bacon a day later.
Coffee led Colquitt 7-5 on Friday entering the fifth inning of Friday’s game, but the Pack notched three runs in the top of the fifth and held on for a 9-8 win.
Gant Vining had two hits, including a double, with a run scored and one RBI for the Trojans, and Hayden Skipper added two singles and two runs scored. Chad Hutto had a hit and drove in two runs, Clayton Rockett doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run, and Wade Sumner singled, scored, and drove in a run. Jose Rodriguez and Brady Courson had a single and a run scored each, Nolan Wood had one RBI, and Marshall Harper scored a run.
Brayden Amerson got the start and went just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Connor Watson came on in relief and took the loss, tossed 2/3 of an inning and allowed two earned runs on one hit with a walk, and Tanner Hampton tossed the final 2 2/3 of an inning, allowing one earned run on two his with a walk and two strikeouts.
Coffee then imploded a day later versus Bacon, allowing five runs in the top of the seventh in wasting a 6-3 lead to fall 8-6. The Trojans committed three errors in the game.
Nick Griffin had a hit and drove in two runs, Hutto Wood singled and scored twice and drove in one, and Harper had one RBI and scored a run. Courson had a hit, stole a base, and drove in a run, Skipper singled, stole two bases and scored once, Sumner had one RBI, and Rockett stole two bases.
Coffee is now 1-2 this season.
The Trojans played at home versus Pierce County on Tuesday and will host Jeff Davis on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Coffee plays at Ola on Saturday in Adel at 12:30 p.m.
