Douglas Man Arrested After Allegedly Kidnaping Woman at Gunpoint from CRMC Parking Lot

A Douglas man was recently arrested after he allegedly kidnapped a woman from the Coffee Regional Medical Center parking lot at gunpoint last week.

According to the report, on May 6 around 6:50 p.m., 29-year-old Jeremy Jarod Merritt, a convicted felon, kidnapped a woman in the parking lot of Coffee Regional Medical Center at gunpoint. According to local law enforcement, the woman was visiting a patient in the hospital when Merritt allegedly kidnapped her by leaving the location and assaulting her.

The report states that after the assault occurred, Merritt returned the woman back to Coffee Regional Medical Center and left the premises.

The following day, a warrant was issued for Merritt’s arrest and he was located on Jim Road in Coffee County without incident. Merritt was arrested on charges of Kidnapping, Terroristic Threats and Acts, Battery – Family Violence, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
