A 24-year old man was arrested in Florida on Monday, August 15, and charged with shooting and killing Eastman police officer Tim Smith on Saturday night, August 13, around 9:30 p.m. Smith was a former Douglas resident and still had ties to the community.
According to multiple reports, Eastman police officer Tim Smith responded to a call of a “suspicious person” on Saturday night and when he arrived in the area, he came into contact with Royheem Deeds. When Smith exited his car, Deeds opened fire on the officer, who suffered what turned out to be a fatal gunshot wound to the torso. He was not wearing any body armor.
