Fitzgerald Band Director Facing Charges of Sodomy and Sexual Assault

The Fitzgerald High School Band Director was arrested two weeks ago for aggravated sodomy and received an additional charge last week for a sexual assault.

The band director, Jonathan Kelly, was initially arrested on Thursday, May 23, around 7:45 p.m. and charged with Aggravated Sodomy involving a juvenile former student of Kelly’s.

Less than a week after his arrest, Kelly received an additional charge of aggravated assault involving a minor after a second victim came forward. Officials also stated that investigators expect more charges to be filed.

According to a release by the Worth County Middle School Facebook page, Kelly was recently hired as their new Band Director but will no longer be working with the school following his arrest.

According to the Ben Hill County Sheriff Lee Cone, Kelly is currently being held in the Crispy County Jail and will appear in court on June 11.
