Last Week’s Shooting Caused During Domestic Dispute, Husband Jailed on Assault Charges
Last week, a man was arrested on pending aggravated assault charges following a shooting that took place at a residence in Coffee County on Memorial Day. At the time of press last week, little information could be provided because Coffee County Sherriff’s Office investigators had yet to interview the suspect or the victim.
Since that time, the CCSO office has released new information regarding the shooting. According to CCSO officials, around 4 p.m. on May 27, officers from the Coffee County Sherriff’s Office were dispatched to 3751 Sinkhole Road in Douglas in reference to a female at the location being shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a white female, identified as Elizabeth Spivey, with a gunshot to the right arm and the stomach area.
Officials stated that officers then rendered first aid until EMS services were able to arrive on the scene, and the female was then transported by Air Evac to Macon for treatment.
During the investigation, investigators were able to determine Elizabeth had been shot during a domestic dispute at the residence.
As a result, Elizabeth’s husband, 30-year-old Matthew Ryan Spivey, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault (Family Violence) and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Matthew has been incarcerated at the Coffee County Jail since his arrest.
Matthew was also arrested on April 10 for multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault – Family Violence, Simple Battery x 2, and Cruelty of Children in the 3rd Degree following a domestic incident with Elizabeth and her mother. Matthew was out on bond at the time of the shooting.
