Lone Hill United Methodist Church Homecoming, September 17, 2017
Lone Hill United Methodist Church is celebrating Homecoming on September 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m.
They are excited to have as the guest preacher Douglas native, the Rev. Bill Cottingham. He retired after serving 35 years in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Bill is a native of Douglas and graduated from Coffee County High School in 1965.
His education continued at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Candler School of Theology of Emory University. Bill comes from a long line of Methodist preachers.
As a child, the Newbern-Wilcox Family reunion was held annually at Lone Hill United Methodist Church. This occasion was a wonderful time visiting the family cemetery, and the hospitality of this church community.
Mr. Cottingham enjoys small engine repair, sports, physical activities including Pilates. Bill is a member of the United Methodist Church Business Administrators. For over 60 years Cottingham has been connected to the Boys Scouts of America. Currently he serves as a Unit Commissioner, and shares leadership in an inner-city Cub Pack. Bill is the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and Wood Badge Training of Scouting.
Bill is married to Jana Nichols of Wallace, NC, and reside in Wilmington on the east coast. They have two children, Sara and Paul.
Following the service, lunch will be served. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
