Miami Marlins To Host Youth Day Honoring Joe Reliford On July 24th
The Miami Marlins will be hosting a Youth Day honoring Joe Louis Reliford, Sr., at a game versus the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the Marlins Park in Miami, FL. The game will begin at 12:10 p.m.
This is part of a summer youth interaction with youth from South Florida and hopefully at least 20 from Douglas and South Georgia. The youth attending in Joe’s honor will be in a pre-game parade on the field.
The activities include four days and three nights with all youth participating in big pool swimming, visiting the Old Dillard Historic Museum, African Research Library Culture Center programs, and a special tribute to Joe featuring Buck Shaw, All-American from Tuskegee University. An effort is being made for a youth baseball game between attending youth.
Some organizations in Florida have taken on the responsibility to help generate funds to help with cost of rooms and food. Ms. Val Wolberg, senior manager of Parks and Recreation of Roosevelt Garden Park, has already purchased tickets for 100 youth from Lauderdale, FL, to attend.
Joe is the world’s youngest professional baseball player, honored in Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, Strange But True Baseball Stories by Furman Bishop, Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and Georgia Trivia.
Ticket package includes bullpen reserved for $10 or baseline reserved for $23 (area where youth will sit near the field). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mary Hayes Center in honor of Joe, who is also a member of the advisory board of the center.
Deadline to order tickets is July 13, 2018. Cash, debit, or credit cards are accepted. Contact William Noel, Miami Marlins, at 305-480-1554 or email firstname.lastname@example.org; Danny Phillips, More Than A Game of Fort Lauderdale, at 954-854-7495; or Gwendolyn Reliford at 912-381-0564 or 912-384-7366.
Tee shirts are being made for those from Georgia who would like to purchase one.
