Recall Of Several Brands Of Flour Sold In Georgia Over Public Health Risk From E. coli

To date, E. coli O121 has not been found in any General Mills flour products or in the flour manufacturing facility and the company has not been contacted directly by any consumer reporting confirmed illnesses related to these products.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black is alerting Georgians to the recall of certain flour products distributed in Georgia due to potential health risk. Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) inspectors will be checking retail stores and warehouses to make sure the recalled products have been removed from sale. Here is the information via the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA):
General Mills is recalling specific lots Gold Medal flour, Wondra flour and Signature Kitchens flour (sold in Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel, Shaws, Vons, United, Randalls, and Acme stores) because the products have the potential to be contaminated with E. coli O121, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with E. coli O121 can experience bloody diarrhea and dehydration. In rare circumstances, infection with E. coli O121 can result in more severe illnesses. To date, no illnesses have been linked to Georgia.
