SGSC Theatre Company Proud To Support Lancelot & Quest Of Heart

South Georgia State College’s Theatre Company was recently given the opportunity to support a local charity, Quest of Heart, which is led by CEO Renee Holton and her son Lancelot. Club members set up a table on the Douglas Campus awhere they accepted donations of cash, toys, hygiene supplies, books, and more to benefit Quest of Heart.
Quest of Heart is a nonprofit charity organization that helps families affected by congenital heart defects. Renee Holton, Founder of Quest of Heart, took time to talk with members of SGSC Theatre Company and explained that she started the charity in 2011 to help families like her own.
Her son, Quest of Heart spokesman Lancelot Holton, was diagnosed with William’s Syndrome and a congenital heart defect as a baby. Doctors told Ms. Holton her son wouldn’t live more than two years. Despite this prognosis, he has made it to twenty-five years of age. Ms. Holton’s late niece, Sharee Holton, passed away from a congenital heart defect at twenty-two years of age. These two inspire her to reach out to help other families.
Holton and Lancelot reside in Coffee County, yet they have had to travel often due to Lancelot’s medical condition. This has afforded them the opportunity to meet many unique individuals with congenital heart defects.
Hospitals, such as Wilson Children’s Hospital in Florida, have allowed Holton and Lancelot to deliver thousands of care packages to families in need. They travel all over South Georgia and North Florida when possible to deliver gifts, gas cards, and supplies to families affected by congenital heart defects. Their mission is to bring Christmas all year long, and they have been successful in doing so.
When asked what she would wish to say to all the families who have been blessed by Quest of Heart, she responded, “I would tell them I have been blessed because helping others is something we wanted to do, and donors and recipients have made that possible. Everybody is on a Quest of Heart - to be happy and healthy. I would like to meet them and hear their stories. Quest of Heart has touched my heart.”
She also said she likes to raise awareness of congenital heart defects, which is the number-one birth defect and the most under-represented childhood disease. She proclaims, “I fight for awareness.”
SGSC Theatre Company would like to thank all those who made it possible for the club to support Quest of Heart. The charity is still in dire need of gift cards, monetary donations, toys, coloring books, crayons, hygiene supplies, books, stuffed animals, and so much more.
Anyone desiring to donate to families affected by congenital heart defects can contact Quest of Heart through their Facebook page or through QuestofHeart.com. –Kori Hughes, SGSC Theatre Company Secretary
