Suspect Behinds Bars After July 3rd Shooting
A Coffee County man was arrested and is now behind bars after he allegedly shot another man in the face the day before the Fourth of July.
According to officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, around 10 a.m. on July 3, Coffee E911 was dispatched to a residence on Ronnie Walker Road in reference to an individual being shot in the head.
Law enforcement states that when deputies arrived, they located the victim, Danny Chaney, who had “obvious wounds that were not immediately identified as to the exact location.” Chaney was immediately life-flighted from the location to receive treatment for his injuries.
According to the CCSO, witnesses at the scene stated the man responsible for the shooting, 44-year-old Joshua Wiggins, lived in a camper trailer on the location. The witnesses also told officers that Wiggins “shot Chaney and then fled the scene” in a white Dodge truck.
The report states that local officers, along with the Ware County Tracking Unit with K9, were able to locate Wiggins at a residence on Tillman Road shortly after the shooting.
While Wiggins was being apprehended, detectives discovered the suspected firearm in a wooded area near the residence. Wiggins was transported to the Coffee County Jail, charged with aggravated assault, and was denied bond.
CCSO officials stated that Chaney’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
