Mrs. Ruby Ricketson Johnson, 93
Mrs. Ruby Ricketson Johnson, age 93, of Broxton, GA, passed away early Friday morning, April 12, 2019, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Johnson was born February 3, 1926, to the late Robert Taft Ricketson and the late Fannie Lott Ricketson. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Robert Taft Ricketson, Ivella Gillum, John M. Ricketson, Jaunell McCallum, Dorothy Thurman, Vilas Ricketson, Juanita Foskey and Mary Alice Ricketson; two granddaughters, Syanne Musgrove and Martha Anne Twiggs; and two grandsons, Hunter Railey and Carlton Musgrove.
Mrs. Johnson had lived in the Broxton area her entire adult life. She was a faithful and an active member of Broxton First Baptist Church for 65 years. She was selfless in her work in the church and her devotion to all its activities.
She was a member of TOPS, AlaNon, the Broxton Woman’s Club, WMU and Sunshiners. She loved these organizations and the friends she made over the years. She also served the Broxton community through her job as City Clerk, her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, and her care and concern for the unchurched in the community.
She enjoyed her yard and her beautiful flowers. She toiled tirelessly gathering fruits and vegetables to fill her pantry and freezers. She worked for years in the Broxton Coat Factory and also took in sewing for family income. She raised five children and set before them the example of love, forgiveness, and steadfastness.
She cherished her special friends who were devoted to her and never tired of sharing their lives with her. She loved her family and was never happier than when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who loved her with a love that will never die.
Survivors include: five children, Martha Johnson Quinn and husband Derryl of Leesburg, GA, Glenda Johnson Martin and husband Ken of Gainesville, GA, John Harlan Johnson and friend Abby Kight of Broxton, GA, Vance Darryl Johnson of Cullman, AL, and Valecia Johnson Musgrove and friend Scotty Souther of Douglas, GA; three siblings, Arleatha Tate, Charles Ricketson, and Waymon Ricketson, all of Denton, GA; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The memorial service was held Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Broxton Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Wigley officiating. Special eulogies were given by Kacey Martin, Holly Johnson, and Glenda Martin. The interment followed in the Broxton City Cemetery.
Special musical selections included “Amazing Grace,” “Victory In Jesus,” and “I’ll Fly Away” presented as congregational hymns led by Jimmy McCallum with Ray Coleman at the piano, “It Is Well” was presented a cappella by Zan Quinn Twiggs and husband Allen. Prelude and postlude soft hymns were rendered by the pianist, Ray Coleman.
